Our Story
The Upland Hospitality Group story starts with beer, but it's really about people, community, and doing things the right way.
From One Brewery to a Family of Brands
In 1998, Upland Brewing opened in Bloomington, Indiana with a simple mission: brew quality beer with integrity. No gimmicks, no shortcuts—just honest craft and Midwestern values.
Over 25 years later, that foundation hasn't changed. We've grown from a single brewpub to a family of restaurant concepts across Indiana and beyond, but we're still independently owned, still committed to quality, and still proud to be outside the corporate machine.
Today, Upland Hospitality Group encompasses Upland Brewing, BlackSheep Craft Pizza & Cocktails, CV Tap House & Kitchen, and CV Proper Kitchen & Bar. Each brand has its own personality, but they all share the same DNA: thoughtful ingredients, genuine hospitality, and spaces where community happens naturally.
We're not trying to be the biggest. We're trying to be the best at what we do—and to create remarkable experiences for every person who walks through our doors.
Our Values Guide Everything We Do
Independence
We're family-owned and fiercely independent. That means we make decisions based on what's right for our team, our guests, and our community—not what's best for a corporate bottom line
Quality Without Compromise
From the hops in our beer to the flour in our pizza dough, we source thoughtfully and craft carefully. We don't cut corners, and we don't follow trends just because they're trendy.
Authenticity
No pretense, no gimmicks. We're Midwestern through and through—warm, honest, and down-to-earth. What you see is what you get, and that's the way we like it.
Community Connection
We believe in supporting the people and places around us. That means partnering with local farmers, giving back, and creating jobs. We're not just in the community—we're part of it.
